Who Comes to Reunions?

Thanks to Alice Davies, who has been squirreling away lists of attendees and other records for 30 years now, we have information on who attended every reunion from the fifteenth on. 619 individuals attended at least one reunion and twelve had perfect attendance at all six.

The attendance has grown with each reunion (with the exception of the transition from the super-well-attended 25th to the more normal 30th). Here are the figures:

15th 20th 25th 30th 35th 40th
102 119 402 182 269 276

We continue to attract classmates who have never been to a reunion before: 46 first-timers came to the 40th, 54 to the 35th and 43 to the 30th. (Continued on, follow the link below.)

Annual Class Dinner in April

Our class dinner started after the 25th reunion, when a number of classmates didn't want to wait another five years to get together again. The first dinner was held in April of 1991 and we have met annually ever since.

The format is modeled on dinners held by the class of '64. The event is for classmates only and we start with a wine bar and then move on to dinner. During dinner each classmate has one minute to speak on any topic they chose, preferably about themselves - and the time limit is strictly enforced by Charles Styron and a rather loud bell. The atmosphere is generous, attentive and non-judgmental and the vignettes presented by classmates are fascinating and often moving.

We traditionally have a speaker, chosen from our own class. The range of subjects is limitless. This year's speaker is Alison Brooks '65, who will speak about "Adventures in the Pleistocene: Social Networking and the Origins of Humanness".  Alison is Professor of Anthropology at George Washington University, Research Associate of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, and Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences,

About 50 to 60 classmates generally attend the dinner. This year's classmates-only dinner is on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 at the Harvard Faculty Club, Cambridge. The wine bar is open at 6:00 PM and dinner starts at 7:00 PM.

If you wish to attend, send a check for $65, payable to "Harvard/Radcliffe Class of 1965," to: Alice Davies, 75 Woodchester Drive, Weston, MA 02493. (The class has an Assistance Fund; if the cost of the dinner is prohibitive for you, send Alice the amount you can afford.)

Please respond by Tuesday, April 20. After that date, call  Alice at 781 235-1431  or email to reserve your place and to be sure that space is available.

Parking for the event is available at the Broadway Garage - third floor or higher.

We've already posted your Yearbook picture and you can upload up to three additional pictures. We're hoping you'll post pictures from different stages of your life - but the choice is yours.

As before, if all this seems too complicated, you can email me a picture and I'll upload it for you. Or, failing that, mail me a picture at Bill Bean, 21 Foster Street, Cambridge, MA 02138. I'll scan it, upload it, and return the picture to you. (This offer applies to both profile pictures and pictures for the gallery.)
