Duck TourOn Sunday afternoon we have planned an optional, post-reunion volunteer program with the Home for Little Wanderers.  The program starts with a visit to the Home for Little Wanderers' residential facility at the Knight's Children's Center at 161 South Huntington Ave., Jamaica Plain, MA.  After a tour of the facility classmates will meet the children and join them for a Duck Tour of Boston.

The visit will start at 1:30 and we estimate that the Duck Tour will end at 4:20.   We anticipate that transportation will be available to pick up and return alumni to a central location.

The Home is the nations oldest non-profit child and family service agencies with roots dating back to 1799. Its mission is to ensure the healthy behavioral, emotional, social and educational development and physical well-being of children and families living in at-risk circumstances

Based in Jamaica Plain, the Knight Children's Center (KCC) has both residential and day treatment programs. KCC serves boys and girls ages 5 through 13 who have serious emotional, behavioral, and learning problems which are often the result of physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

The Home is continually looking for ways to bring the plight of the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable children and families to the attention of those in a position to help.  In these difficult times, services provided by The Home are in greater demand than ever and our resources are stretched thinly.   A Duck Tour would normally be beyond our means and we are grateful to the Harvard Alumni for making it possible to include some of our kids in this treat.

In addition to being a fun outing for the children, it is good for them to have an opportunity to meet and talk to people for whom a good education was a priority.  This is a message we continually try to carry to those we care for.  We believe the alumni will appreciate the opportunity to see the positive change that occurs in children’s lives when they have the help of caring adults.
