Gala Dinner Print Email

The last, major, evening event of our Reunion will be the Wednesday Gala on May 27, 2015 at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center (next to Harvard Stadium). It will be a festive evening of cocktails, dinner and dancing from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Approximately 600 classmates, spouses and guests are expected to attend.

The Gala will be an historic occasion. It will be our final evening together and the first time a large reunion event will be held at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center. Recent renovations to the Hockey Center make it an exciting and interesting venue for our celebration. Although the space is large, ceiling drapes, flowers, plants, colorful table decorations and special lighting will create an environment that will be soft, elegant, epic and intimate. Two renovated, comfortable lounges will be available for classmates wishing a place for quiet conversation after dinner while still being close to the music and dancing. Guests can move easily between both worlds.

The schedule for the evening will be cocktails from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, dinner from 7:00 – 9:00 PM and dancing from 8:30 – 11:00 PM. During the cocktail hour, there will be piano music. The band for the evening will be the 10-piece Bo Winiker Band which has played at numerous Harvard Reunions including the 50th Reunion Galas for the Classes of 1963 and 1964. The leader is Bo Winiker, an experienced and gifted musician who has played or conducted with the Boston Pops and the New York Philharmonic and Cleveland Orchestras. He has performed at the White House for President Ford and at two Presidential Inaugurations with Presidents Carter and Clinton.

The Winiker Band can play a wide-range of music from the 30s and 40s to the present, including rock, swing, ballroom, Latin and other popular music. They will play some of our favorite songs from the 60s and are eager to play songs requested by the Class. During dinner they will play soft music allowing pleasant dinner conversation. At around 8:30 PM they will strike up the music for dancing. We are trying to arrange line dancing to provide more dancing opportunities for classmates who come without partners. The dinner will also include welcoming remarks by Event Co-Chairs, Joyce Putnam Curll and Eugene A. Skowronski, an invocation by Rev. Teri McCannel Motley, a Class Toast by Charles W. Styron, Jr., and the singing of a medley of Harvard and Radcliffe songs to the accompaniment of the Winiker Band and the keyboard music of classmates, Malcolm Brown (former President of the Harvard Glee Club) and Brian Cooke (a multi-talented professional musician). The singing will be led by classmates Linda Thimann Dewing and Herbert J. Motley, Jr.

The attire for the evening will be cocktail attire for women and a jacket, with or without a tie, for the men.

We hope you will all come and enjoy what promises to be a wonderful evening of conversation, cocktails, music, dancing, singing and friendship at the Wednesday Gala at the historic Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

Respectfully Submitted,

Joyce Curll and Gene Skowronski
Event Co-Chairs
