February 17, 2022
Dear Classmates from HR ’65,
We hope you are well and healthy and had a joyous holiday season. Best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year.
We are writing to give you a status report on our in-person Reunion scheduled for May 13–14, 2022. We must have 150 registrants (including guests) by April 12, 2022, to make the in-person Reunion economically feasible. We currently have 75 committed to attending. You can view the program outline and accommodations here.
Because the Harvard campus is not available to us until our next regular reunion in 2025, our May Reunion is scheduled at the Harvard Club of Boston. We believe that the Club offers the best alternate location for convenience, accessibility, atmosphere, spaces, and services. To reserve the rooms we want, we need to make a large, non-refundable payment by mid-April. The original due date for this payment was mid-February. We successfully negotiated an extension until mid-April to give everyone more time to assess the COVID situation.
So, if you want to attend the Reunion in Boston in May of this year and enjoy celebrating with friends old and new, we ask you to REGISTER here as soon as possible, and definitely before April 12.
Your Reunion Committee very much wants our in-person Reunion to go forward as planned. We think we have put together an interesting and enjoyable program and, perhaps more importantly, we treasure the opportunity to meet in-person, share our experiences at Harvard & Radcliffe, renew old friendships, and form new ones. As time passes, these opportunities, and our ability to take advantage of them, diminish. Perhaps the Romans said it best, “tempus fugit”…“carpe diem.”
Your early response to this letter—and please reach out to your friends in the class to join you—will help us enormously. Please let us know soon your plans to attend by registering through the link above.
Answers to concerns you may have:
-
Refunds:
-
All registration fees already paid, or paid before April 12, will be fully refunded IF YOU cancel before April 12 by calling the HAA office at (617) 496-7001.
-
If we are unable to hold the Reunion because we do not have 150 registrants by April 12, all registration fees will be refunded.
-
If we have 150 registrants by April 12, we will make the non-refundable payment to the Harvard Club of Boston and the in-person Reunion will go forward as planned. In that case, you may expect a refund after April 12 only for extraordinary personal reasons.
-
If, after April 12, there is a governmental ban on gatherings of 150+ persons due to a COVID surge, then the Reunion will be rescheduled for a later date in 2022 or 2023, or incorporated into our 60th Reunion in 2025. In this event you will receive a full credit for the payment you have already made, applicable to the rescheduled event. (During the height of the pandemic in 2020 there was such a ban.)
-
COVID: With 150 or more registrants, we will of course have to comply with requirements such as vaccinations and masks, and the effect of those on our program. The COVID policy will follow all governmental requirements from the city, state, CDC, and the Harvard Club of Boston. At this time verification of vaccination is required. To further protect classmates, as of now, we will also require proof of a booster. We had hoped to have a Reunion without masks. However, current regulations require masks at all times except when eating and drinking. Since our program includes plenty of opportunity for eating and drinking, we feel the potential need for masks at the other events will be acceptable.
-
If the in-person Reunion is canceled because we do not have enough registrants to cover our very carefully considered expenses, we will reach out to you with other possibilities for holding our 55th Reunion. We will keep you updated, of course.
We invite you to give this your most serious attention as soon as you can and hopefully send in your registration. Many signs point to an abatement in the pandemic, especially in the Northeast, so it is very possible that the COVID restrictions may be reduced by May so that we can gather together as we have in the past.
We hope we can “Sweep down the field again” … “with Crimson in triumph flashing…” this year! Please respond.
Sincerely,
Linda Dewing & Eugene Skowronski
